Elio, released in June 2025, marked another original feature from Pixar Animation Studios amid a period when the studio balanced original stories with sequels. The film follows a young boy who is unexpectedly swept into an intergalactic setting and mistaken for Earth's representative.
As an original concept rather than a follow-up to an existing franchise, Elio drew attention as a test of appetite for wholly new animated stories. Pixar leaned into its trademark blend of humor, heart and imaginative world-building.
