Superman Launches a New Era for DC

James Gunn's Superman arrived in the summer of 2025 as the flagship launch of the newly rebuilt DC Universe, with Gunn — co-head of DC Studios — writing and directing. David Corenswet takes on the title role, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Rather than retelling Superman's origin, the film picks up with an established hero navigating his dual identity while facing a scheme orchestrated by Luthor. Gunn framed the film around Superman's core values of hope and kindness, positioning it as a tonal reset after years of darker interpretations of the character.
